METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a workable substance compared to a warm and stringy glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum residue. After that we slide the scraper very slowly beneath the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that is already black, or is smashed down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we don’t use very high pressure because that could damage the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses any more pressure than needed to safely clean commercial concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only 1-2 years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure completely.
